Prayer Pointers, January and February

Its been an interesting start to the year. From the school perspective there seems to be a bit more tension and aggression than usual. Pray that peace will come to the estate.

Its coming to that time of year where Christmas debts are being called in. Pray for safety and for grace. Pray for the work of the Credit Union.

Do continue to pray for the church leaders in the estate. Pray for wisdom and leadership for them.

NEW YEAR MEETING

I'm pleased to be able to confirm that we will be holding a gathered time of community prayer on the 25th January, 2005. We will meet at 7.30 for a 7.45 start at Holy Cross Church.

I hope to get publicity out across the estate early in the new year, if you want to help me distribute then give me a shout.

Also watch this space for a new feature. I'm hoping to post each week with the name of a street to pray for. That way we can "virtually" pray round the estate.

Will be in touch soon with prayer pointers for over Easter.

November- a quick update

Dear all,

Just a quick update to let you knwo where we are at with meetings and so on.

I think we are heading for a re-start to community prayer from January (probably looking at 25th?). I think it is important for us to gather from time to time, as well as prayer being an ongoing presence in the estate.

Watch this space for more details.

For now- a couple of quick prayer pointers:
Its Fireworks weekend, pray for safety and fun. Pray particularly for the vulnerable in our community- that there would be no fear.

Do again pray for safety and no fear as winter draws in.

Half term prayer pointers

Dear all

Half term is next week and there are a few things I think we should maybe be praying into:

Its fireworks season. Do pray that shopkeepers would be honest and wise about who they are selling to. Pray for a safe season, free not only from injury but from intimidation.

Halloween is coming up. Again we need to pray that the inevitable trick or treating sessions will be free from initimidation. Pray that as Christians we can have a positive response to Halloween.

Pray also that our young (and older) people will saty away from the darker excesses of Halloween.

Prayer update

Dear all.
Well a September meeting hasn't materialised. I think the start of a new academic year has taken its toll on people. Heres the plan. In the normal scheme of things we would have gathered to pray tomorrow night. I guess the request is that you take some time out in the comfort of your own home, car, dog walking etc, to pray for the estate.

I think prayers around the theme of keeping on keeping on would be great. This stuff is in no small part about endurance!! Let us encourage one another in prayer to keep on keeping on.

We will gather again before Christmas. Watch this space.

Meeting?

Dear all,

Some more prayer requests and pointers but also a general request about whether people want to gather again to pray for the community. I think it would be great to do; and am happy to facilitate a bit but need to get some others involved.

Maybe a way forward is for those who are interested to gather and pray and then take it from there.

AS for things to pray for: Well Lea Manor is mid OFsted. Seems to be OK so far. Pray that good morale continues and that the inspectors get a fair and positive impression of the school AND the estate.

Things seem to be moving again with the Community Developmennt Trust. New projects that are innovative are now being encouraged. Pray that we will be able to break through some into some of the most hard to reach groups.

Pray also for our community relations with authority. Though good things are happening in some places there are still some undercurrents of tension. Pray that contructive solutions for reconciliation will be heard and put into practice.

Sorry again for the gap.

There are some great things to thank God for. The last couple of weeks have seen the beginnings of an emergent community programme of activities led by the community. Give thanks for the determined hard working people who have fought doggedly to make this happen.

Thanks and prayer also to James McGinley. He's the new chief exec of the Marsh Farm community development trust.. and a good guy. Do pary for his protection and enthusiasm to continue.

Lea Manor is also in good spirits, with exam results a real boost just a few weeks before OFsted.. Do pray for all the staff and students in the run up to and during the inspection. It starts on the 13th September.

Hey

Have been having issues getting a blog on line for a few days.

Lets start from now

Thursday 26th August: GCSE results day. Pray wisdom for our young people as they decide what they do next.

Friday 27th- Bank Holiday weekend starts today. Pray for a final rest for ouir families before starting teh new term.

Saturday 28th- We want to be a community that cares for one another. Pray that we would have opportunities to care for teh people around us.

Sunday 29th- Pray for peace in our community (not just a lack of fighting)

Monday 30th- Thank God for His presence in our community.

NB- am looking to 28th Sept for a potential community prayer time.. watch this space.

PRAYER POINTERS August 9-16

We're in the midst of the summer and whilst we are in the middle of school breaks and so on, the tensions that can build in the estate are doing just that. Its hard work being a parent with all of your children at home all day, but its made harder if you have no money to take them out, no car to take them in etc.. Please keep our families in mind as you pray this week.

August 9- Monday: pray for our vulnerable young people. Pray that they have wisdom as they make friends this summer.

August 10- Tuesday: pray for our community development plans. Pray that local people will have their voice heard in the negotiations about what happens to Marsh Farm.

August 11- Wednesday: pray for safety during all the summer activities for young people.

August 12- Thursday: pray for good local services to be provided for the estate.

August 13- Friday: pray that the powers and authorities in Luton, would hear the voice of the people and respond.

August 14- Saturday: pray for the summer events in teh community. Pray that people would catch a avision of what Marsh Farm can be.

August 15- Sunday: give thanks for the things that are changing, both physocally and spiritually. Ask God to show you more of what he is doing.

August 16- Monday: pray for the people seeking employment from the estate.

July 31- Saturday. Ask God to raise up local officials who will care for the people of Marsh Farm.

August 1- Sunday- Pray that as a community we will begin to relate to one another in new and Kingdom mided ways.

August 2- Monday- Pray for wisdom about where to take the idea of community prayer.

August 3- Tuesday- Pray for places for our young people to go during the summer.

August 4- Wednesday- Pray for the elderly residents of Sherd Lodge and Hickman Court. Pray that they would know no fear.

August 5- Thursday- Pray for the market traders who come for the Tursday Purley Market.

August 6- Friday- Pray for the many young people who are doing short term mission in London this week. Pray that they might grasp something new of God in this.

August 7- Saturday- Pray protection on those on holiday.

August8 - Sunday- Praise God for who He is.

Long one this time:

21 July- Wednesday- the summer is nearly here. Many people are very tired. Pray for peace in our households.

22 July- Thursday- give thanks for the beauty that surrounds the estate.

23 July- Friday- there have been reports of a flasher in Bramingham Woods. Pray for teh safety and protection of people as they walk through the woods.

24 July- Saturday- pray that our young people will have somewhere to go over the summer.

25 July- Sunday- spend some time praising God.

26 July- Monday- pray that more and more people will come forward to get involved in community activity in the estate.

27 July- Tuesday- there was a community prayer time scheduled for today. Perhaps find some other believers and pray with them for our community.

28 July- Wednesday- ask the Lord of the harvest to send workers into the field.

29 July- Thursday- give thanks to God for the many string family relationships our community enjoys.

30 July- Friday- ask God what it is that you should be doing to advance the Kingdom.

Sorry for the intermission..

Tuesday July 13- give thanks for the visible changes we are seeing in the estate. Pray that they might be a reflection of what is going on in the spiritual.

Wednesday July 14- pray for our community leaders and representatives. Pray that they will stand with integrity under the face of much attack.

Thursday July 15- pray for our young people, especially for those who have just finished their end of education exams.

Friday July 16- pray for our church leaders in the estate. Pray that they will continue to lead with love, compassion and humility.

Saturday July 17- pray for one individual you know in Marsh Farm.

Sunday July 18- pray for safety for the residents of Marsh Farm who are on holiday. Pray protection on them and their property.

Monday July 19- pray for the students at th eprimary schools in the estate as they go into the last week of term.

Tuesday July 20- ask God to give you a significant conversation with someone today.

Wednesday July 21- give thanks for all that God has promised for Marsh Farm. Pray His will be done!

15th June- Tuesday. Think we have something on the last one.

16th June- Wednesday. Please pray that more people would get a heart for change in the estate.

17th June- Thursday. Pray for the Chief Exec of the Marsh Farm Community Development Trust. Pray that he would have wisdom in understanding the community he is serving.

18th June- Friday. Pray for the elderly residents of Sherd Lodge and Hickman Court, the two homes for the elderly in Marsh Farm.

19th June- Saturday. Pray that levels of crack addiction in the estate would drop and that addicts would see teh church as a place that could help.

20th June- Sunday. Give thanks for the estate.

21st June- Monday. Pray for the residents of 2 Buckle Close, the local authority children's home.

14th June- Monday. Pray for the residents of the Pen Hill Tower block.

15th June- Tuesday. Pray that fear in the estate would truly be cast out by love.

PRAYER POINTERS JUNE 1-8

I thought I would start small with this:

1st June: Tuesday. Pray for the teenagers in Marsh Farm who are on half term break this week. Pray that they enjoy a safe and trouble free holiday.

2nd June: Wednesday. Pray for continued good working relationships betweeen the local churches today.

3rd June: Thursday. Pray that visitors to the Purley market might go away with a good impression of the estate. Pray that they might visit Market refreshments at Holy Cross.

4th June: Friday. Pray that God will be more and more present in the dealings of the Marsh Farm Community Development Trust. Thank God for Christians who are already involved.

5th June: Saturday. Ask God to bless those from the estate who are marrying today. Pray that they would have longevity and stability in their relationships.

6th June: Sunday. Thank God for Marsh Farm.

7th June: Monday. Pray for our children and young people as they return to school. Pray particularly for those sitting exams.

8th June: Tuesday. Pray for blessing in your street.

What I will do is tap in what I have so far for the prayer diary and it will be online for all to see.
